Burda Style Magazine Burda Style 09/12 September 2012

Burda 09/12
I quite enjoyed this issue of the magazine, I think it helps that it is properly wet and windy here now and the temperature is most definitely that of autumn so I don't mind looking at wintery clothing.
Cutaway 132
I quite like this funky jacket, it is a little hard to see in the picture but is has some really snazzy contrasting lapels and a longer back which would make it really modern looking.  It would also be fab for making a circus ringmaster costume!  Perhaps I am just a little bit obsessed with Halloween costumes at the moment.
Dress 107
I really like this giant hounds-tooth print dress, the big pockets are awesome and I could see myself wearing this right now.
Shirt 123A, Skirt 127
This is a great combination outfit, I really like the lacey skirt and the lace detail on the jersey top.  I'm not a fan of brown but I think this tan colour works really well under the black lace.
Bolero 120, Dress 121
I'm not so sure about the bolero, it might be a little edgy for me but I love the slimline shaping on this dress.  Using the same colour but different fabrics is a more subtle way of wearing this type of dress rather than using bright fabrics as I have seen around.
DIY Inserts
This DIY is really helpful in showing you how to insert lace panels into an existing jumper and I think it really looks like the inspiration piece.  I love lace so this is right up my street.
Blouse 118
This is actually more mustard colour in the mag which is a colour I really like.  (I have a top and shoes in it!)   The thin tie up collar is less fussy than a poofy pussy bow but still looks cute and I love the front buttons and bell-like cuffs with those cute buttons.
Jacket 138, Skirt 142
This jacket is sooo lovely!  I love the little puffy shoulders, the peplum bottom and the stand up collar.  The buttons and brooch make it look very military which always seems to be in for winter.  It is a plus size pattern, so too big for me, but I would love to resize and make it.
Again in corduroy
Dress 144
I also really like this plus size pattern for this empire line dress with three-quarter sleeves.  The ruffles neckline is really sweet though I think it would be nicer in a shorter length.
Dress 152
Oh my goodness, I love this dress!!  I know it is a children's outfit but I really want it!  I even have a dress pattern that I think would work well for it.  Again, I love that mustard colour the capped sleeves and the pleated skirt.
Coat 149
Again, really sweet children's coat, the green colour is unusual for a coat but really works and the buttons and round collar are lovely.

To be honest there is not a lot I don't like in this magazine and I actually really like this dirndl-esque style outfit but I just don't see that anyone would wear it other than as a costume.  Which is a shame as I like those sequins!

Burda Style June 2012 Review

Oh gosh I didn't realise I had forgotten to post June's issue, so you get a double whammy now!
Burda 6/2012
Dress 126
I am not normally a fan of the sun-cover-up-tunic type dress but I quite like this one.  I think it is because the of the fitted long sleeves plus I could see it with the waist cinched in tighter and it would make a cute day dress.
Dress 136
I really love this dress, it is the designer pattern from Luisa Beccaria, who I must confess I had not heard of but she makes the most fabulous light and airy evening dresses with lots of lace and ruffles so she is right up my street.  I love the chiffon fabric used here and I think the halter style would be very flattering and the cute little ruffle round the hem is so sweet!
Skirt 123
I know bubble skirts are a Marmite item of clothing (I am in the hate it camp) and technically this is a bubble skirt.  However I really like it.  It is not that pronounced and I like the fact it twists to the side creating an interesting detail.  Also the blue stripe they have made it with makes it look really casual, I think it would be great in a similar shirting fabric.
DIY
The DIY section of the magazine involves the gem stone trend that has been seen on the runways.  In this section they have used craft foam which I don't think would survive the washing machine but I think it would work well with felt or fabric too.  Quite a cool way to jazz up a plain outfit.
Skirt 111B
I quite like this romantic floaty skirt though I don't think I would pair it with a sweatshirt, it could look great for a summer wedding.
Dress 141B
This is quite a simple wrap dress though I would be a bit annoyed if it kept blowing open as the picture shows.  I am thinking this could be made reversible or lined in case it does.
Dress 112
This is my pick for my least favourite.  It might not be obvious why, it is pretty much a simple halter neck but there are two versions in this mag and neither of them seem to fit properly.  The problem seems to be at the bust and shoulders where is is gaping on the model which leads me to think I would have no chance getting it to fit me properly!

Burda Style May 2012 Magazine Review

05/2012
The print on the front of this months mag really got me going.  I don't really like the dress but ooo pretty butterflies!  This issue has a lot of pastel colours which I totally love, I know they reckon it is 'in' at the moment but I don't care, I love ice cream shades!
Blouse 131 Skirt 130B
I must admit I got rather over excited when I saw this skirt.  I adore the pleated chiffon skirts that are about at the moment and have been trawling the internet to find fabric to make one, and you know what?  It is really hard to find pre-pleated fabric!  When I saw this I thought, yes! maybe Burda will have a way to sew it myself!  But no, they recommend buying the fabric then sending it to company that pleats it for you.  I cannot afford to do that, and for one skirt is seems a waste.  (So I caved and bought one on ebay for under £5!  I can't make one cheaper than that!)
Dress 127 C
I have a thing for shirt dresses though I only have one shirt waist I made, this one seems a good candidate for the full on shirt style.  I love the cute little neckline and the rolled up sleeves and yes the styling has sucked me in and it might not look so great all buttoned up, but I don't care!
Dress 132
This looks like a skirt and top but it is actually a full dress!  This is the first time I  have seen a pattern for something like this and I think the outfit is really sweet.  I'm not sure I would wear it in such pale colours but the boat neck and the little skirt pleats make me really love it.
Blouse 127 B Skirt 119
The untucked blouse kind of hides this skirt but I love the minty green lace and I think it could be another wardrobe staple skirt pattern.  Burda is always good for skirts.
Tunic 107 A
Not my usual thing but for some reason I really like this wavy line tunic.  It could make a great mini-dress and is really different.
Dress 133

Oh gosh this might be my favourite thing in the whole magazine!  They have recreated a 1961 pattern, the lovely polka dot dress on the right with the bows on the shoulders!  The line drawing is a little different, it has a slightly more draped front neckline than the original but look at the back!  So gorgeous!  I do not like the pink velvet they used but this could really be a stunning dress.  I prefer the polka dots myself!  I really hope they do this more often.
Skirt 106 B
Another thing I love it mustard.  My boyfriend hates it but I am drawn to mustard coloured clothing which is most probably why I like this skirt but I also think the drape and the waistband with the belt looks really pretty.

Skirt 118
Another cute skirt!  This one has some sweet little pleats and I like the waist band detail, although I think it could do with a button or two in front rather then the hook and eye, or dare I say it, velcro! that might have been used as it doesn't lie flat and I hate skirts that have bumpy bits right on my bumpy bit!

Dress 137
I have included this as it is a pretty perfect little wiggle dress pattern though it doesn't photograph well in black I think it could be pretty stunning in a bright red say.  Side note: who wears this for hanging out the washing?  She even collects eggs in another outfit!  The last time I collected eggs I wore wellies and got pooped on!

Corset Belt 126 Trousers 122 B
I have no problem with the trousers, though how she is planning on playing tennis in those heels I don't know, but that apron looking thing at her waist is a corset belt.  A what?  I have never heard of this before, perhaps is has passed me by, but it basically looks like she is wearing shorts over her trousers.  Not good.  I really don't understand it and cannot think of any outfit that it would look right with.

Hope you enjoyed, I really love this issue, and today is my birthday so I am extra happy!

Burda Style April 2012

What a turn around!  The April issue is a corker!  If you like retro then this is one for you, a whole retro/vintage style section.  Yay!

Blouse 126 A
There is not a chance that I would wear this see through blouse just over my bra but I love how it looks on the model and over a vest top or strapless dress it would be gorgeous.
Skirt 118 B
I believe this is the skirt in the first photo and it is so sexy!  What a slinky high-waisted look, Burda really does these skirts well.
Trousers 125
How much do I love these trousers?  Wide legged trousers suit me best even if skinny-minnie ones are in fashion now and the buttons on the pockets are a really nice look.
Bolero 123
I love this too!  The little capped sleeves are sweet and the bolero is always good over a party dress to keep out the chill.  This one stays open which would show off your dress too rather than covering it up.
Top 115 A
Now this is one I can't decide on.  The main cover is the dress version and this is the shorter one.  I think the sleeves look better on the top than the dress but I can't really decide if they are just too much or if they are cute.
Dress 106
The construction of this dress looks really confusing.  From the picture it looks like a wrap dress tying on the models left but then it has a flap on the bodice which comes across the opposite way?  Slightly odd.  I love the white dress though, you could do without the bib/flappy bit and just wear a top under it and it would be very Jane Austeny.  (Is that a word? haha!)
Dress 147
It is a real shame there is not a better picture of this dress.  It is by the designer Alberta Ferretti which I found exciting and it is something I would defiantly wear.  It is actually quite demure but I love the draped feel and the special brooch or buckle look great.
DIY Belt Loops
I really like this style of top where the belt loops through the top to cinch it in and there is a great 'how to' for adapting floaty loose tops so you can thread your belt through.  I may have to try this as I don't like loose tops with no definition but I love this!
My least favourite garment was this, purely because the saggy wrinkled waist does nothing for this girl and completely eliminates her lady lumps!

Burda Style March 2012

I'm a little late with this one as I have had a bit of a time restricted project going on but more about that in another post!  The March issue was not that inspiring to me but I have picked out my favourites.  I have realised doing this each month really helps me when I want to find a pattern that I remember seeing in a previous magazine as I can just look of my blog posts.  It really helped when I was looking for a particular shorts pattern the other day.

Blouse 138, Shorts 139
I love these little waste paper bag-style shorts, I would wear them if they weren't a kids pattern!
Blouse 113 B, Shorts 114 A
I totally love these shorts!  The print is so pretty and the tie belt is sweet, they would  look great in silk or satin.
Dress 106 C
This is not a very flattering pattern, a belt would look better but I am in love with pink eyelet at the moment after seeing Amy Adams in a gorgeous eyelet dress here.
Dress 104
This is Burda's take on Pippa Middleton's bridesmaid dress but I just like the back button detail.

I am loving peplums at the moment but I think I need some courage to wear one.  This one may be a little big but I think it could be adapted.
Tunic 131
My least favourite is this blouse. I like lace but this is just a bit too much for me!

Burda Style January 2012

After the fabulous December issue this January one is a little disappointing.  There were a lot less things I liked in it, the first section of the New Look dresses just looks a bit shapeless and not flattering to me but maybe I am just not in fashion and prefer the vintage new look heehee!
Bustier 124, Pants 127
However the next section is the yearly underwear chapter.  Hooray!  I love this bit.  I'm not sure why but the underwear and PJ issues are among my favourites.
Bolero 157
Such a sweet little ruffle bolero!  I am not sure about leaving the serged edges raw but I do really like it and you could make one in every colour to match every outfit!
Jacket 106
I really love this jacket!  It looks so cosy and warm and the ruffles are really pretty.  It says it is made from mohair fleece, and the picture is quite a loose weave fabric.  I had a look online but mohair fleece doesn't bring up a lot of results.  The main thing that came up was mohair fur for making teddy bears.  If anyone could point me in the right direction for this type of fabric I would be grateful.  I expect it will be expensive too!
Blouse 116 C
I have a bit of a thing about star print so it is hardly surprising that I like this.  The sheer fabric is really pretty too and a wrap top is always flattering.
Blouse 116 B, Skirt 105
This is a great combination, it looks like a dress but is actually a skirt and the blouse from above but in black.  I really like the idea of layering the sheer black over the black satin skirt, I might have to try that, I have been looking for a more dressy skirt to go with going out tops.
Top 112, Skirt 115
I cannot help my love the romantic fantasy style of the Fashion Poetry section even if the patterns themselves are not very inspiring, the settings, photography and hairstyles really are.  This floaty top and skirt look great on the back of a horse, not sure they would in real life but I love them here.
Jacket 107
Here is that jacket again in a cream fabric and longer length.  Argh I want it!  I fear the fabric will cost an arm and a leg but I need it in my life.  Again, any help finding this would be appreciated.

There were quite a few things I didn't like in this issue but for giggles I had to share one of the dressing up ideas.  Most are pretty standard but imagine if you tried to dress your kid in this!
